JD Fine & Company, in cooperation with the CPSC, announced a voluntary recall of children’s hooded sweatshirts that have a drawstring and pose a strangulation hazard to children.
In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.
No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.
The recall involves hooded sweatshirts sold under the “Sweet Tart” brand, in three styles — G80072873C / navy with rhinestones in the shape of a star; G80072874M / pink with rhinestones in the shape of a peace sign; and G80072875F / gray with rhinestones in the shape of a heart.
Consumers should remove the drawstrings immediately to avoid the hazard and return the garment to the store of purchase for a refund.
