Bus Accident Caused by Negligent Driving

Bus driver Ellen Daak was citied for negligence nearly a week after the bus she was driving veered into a roadside ditch while Daak was reading a map.

Daak was transporting 44 passengers – 39 nine-year-old YMCA campers – to a field trip at a state park. She and 16 campers were injured in the accident and taken to the hospital. Daak also drives a school bus in Jefferson City during the school year.

According to court records, Daak’s driving record includes a 2003 traffic ticket for driving 16 to 19 mph over the speed limit in Jefferson City.

After last week’s accident, the remaining campers and staff got on a bus provided by the Columbia Fire Department and went to University Hospital, where their parents picked them up.
